A comprehensive gazetteer to places in Britain where steam engines, many in operation, can be viewed. They may be accessible regularly, on very restricted dates or even sometimes in the open air. Many of these places have one or more engines running under steam, air, turned by electric motor or, in a few unusual cases, by alternative means. The sizes of the engines range from small machines of as little as one or two hp to massive engines in size and/or power output.
Although mostly a guide to stationary and marine steam engines, we include other appropriate places where historical prime movers can be viewed. These have been carefully chosen. They have, in the majority of cases, to be an item related to provision of industrial power or pumping duties.
Facilitating power engineering; mining; industrial history and related organisations publishing and distribution.
